I hope you remember that JBPseudo once talked about selecting the best push mail client for your phone.

Today I’m going to tell you how to use Push Mail on your S60 device, WITHOUT installing any add-on client application .
Since GMail is probably one of the most popular email services among S60 users and is the one that supports the IMAP protocol to the best.
May be you were unaware. But your S60 phone already has a feature called IMAP built-in . IMAP is a protocol much similar to POP3 and is more advanced and enables email to be received in real time.
Now we are going to find out how to configure your S60 to be a Blackberry – to receive your email in real time .
First, go to Menu>Messaging>Options>Settings>Email>Mailboxes>Options>New mailbox .
The mailbox support wizard would start up.
On the first page, you’ll be asked to define the protocol that you wish to use. Select IMAP4 and continue.
In the next page, you’ll be required to enter your email address. Enter it in full.
In the next page, you’ll be asked to enter the Incoming Mail Server, enter imap.gmail.com .
Now you are asked for the Outgoing Mail Server, enter smtp.gmail.com .
Next, you are asked to select the Access Point of your choice. But you can always leave it on ‘ Always Ask ‘ too. Now enter a mailbox name and finish it.
Now you’ve successfully setup a mailbox to be used on the IMAP protocol.
Now we need to edit it and enable the emails to be received in real time.
Now select the newly created mailbox from the Mailboxes menu.
Go to Connection Settings, and onto Incoming mail, you can either enter your username and password and leave them blank and let them to be asked whenever you send or receive email.
In Security Ports under , select SSL/TLS.
In Port, select Default .
Now you should see something similar to this

Go Back and select Outgoing mail. In Security Ports,
select StartTLS.
In Ports, select User Defined and enter 587 .
Now it should look similar to the following
.
Now we are all set to go !
The other setting menus, User, Retrieval and Automatic Retrieval are all for your personal preference. But it is advisable not to play with the Folder Path in Retrieval Settings.
If you wish to receive your email in real time all the time 24 hours a day and seven days a week, you may set it up in Automatic Retrieval. However, if you wish to receive your email all the time, it is highly advisable that you have an unlimited data connection .
But, if you wish to receive your email in real time only periodically, you can do just that.
Go to Messaging and select the IMAP mailbox that we created and select Connect. Now you are connected and will start receiving email in real time, just like a Blackberry !
.
Receiving email with IMAP works fine on both GPRS/EDGE and 3G. So, go ahead, make your S60 and Blackberry !
But forget not, if you select to receive the full emails and not just headers, keep an eager eye on your bill too !

Absolutely brilliant post. Having tried the various Gmail applications on my phone and not being very happy with them, this is a awesome way to push email without installing any application.
Just one thing…. If you are going to enter in your username and password, ensure your username is your “whole” gmail email address and not just the first part…

e.g. emailaddress@gmail.com is your username.

You are an idiot. That is not push mail. That’s just regular email. S60 phones come with a normal email client just like on a desktop.
Are you aware of the difference between IMAP and POP protocols ?
Thank you very much, this was very helpful on my Sony Errikson u8i, im able to receive emails with out any hassles
